I love akara especially when it’s hot and a bit spicy. I remember when I was younger, my aunt used to make akara almost every Saturday morning. It was a weekend breakfast staple for a while and it was something we all loved, we used to go to the kitchen to get the crumbs before it was served, those were the good ol’days.
This days, I buy akara from the road side, its one of the most famous street food till today, and if you are not a nigerian and you plans on coming to nigeria on a travel experience you should try the akara, its a delight.
Akara is referred to as a snack, some people call it beans cake, beans ball, bean fritas etc. The first step to making this breakfast delight is to get rid of the beans coat, its important that the coat-less beans is fresh because of it’s not it wouldn’t come out great. Mainly to prepare this yummy snack here are the thing’s you would need;
- 1 cup of brown beans (black eyed)
- 4 chilli pepper
- 1 medium onions
- Salt to taste
- Vegetable oil for deep fry.
These are the tools you need (pick any)
- Mortar and Pestle
Serving are what you can have alongside the snack:
- Pap (Ogi)
- Bread and Tea
