Hey Lovelies

Today’s meal for the week would be Ogbonno soup, I love Ogbonno soup its really tasty but recently I found out that a lot of women don’t know how to prepare this meal. If you are a Nigerian you would know that the different cultures prepare this soup differently but this recipe can be tried by all.

Served With Wheat

Hello World

For non Nigerians, the Ogbonno soup is created from the seeds the “Bush Mango” “Wild mango” or “African mango” which is a fruit that looks like the mango and contains just as much fiber. Am not a fan of the fruit in itself although I hear it helps the weight loss process (not yet clinically proven) but I love the seed because that’s what i use to create the delicious Ogbonno soup.

One thing about this soup is the fact that you don’t need a lot, if the seed was good the effect is always amazing even if you use little so sit back and watch this video from YouTube Channel All Nigerian Recipe , this is an easy way to learn how to make the Ogbonno soup.

Here’s what you need;

  • Assorted Meat and Fish: Beef, Shaki, DryFish, Stock Fish,
  •  2 handfuls of Ogbono Seeds,
  •  3 Cooking spoons of Palm Oil,
  • Vegetable: Frozen Spinach (you can also use Pumpkin leaves, Uziza or Bitterleaf),
  • 1 handful of crayfish ,
  • Pepper and Salt – To taste,
  • 1 medium size Onion,
  • 2 Stock cubes (Maggi/Knorr).

There are several other unique ways to work with ogbonna, you can either add Egusi (Melon seed) or Okra to the soup for a different approach. For serving you would need; Wheat, Semovita or Semolina (am fine with either) Pounded yam (if you can’t pound just get the mixture), Amala, Fufu and of course you can stick to Eba.

What ingredients do you add to make your ogbonna tastier? What’s your secret ogbonna recipe? Share with us in the comment box below.
