Isn’t it amazing that we have our own traditions? Thankfully the western culture did nothing to ruin our love for our own traditional pieces. Granted in the early millennial one may have thought the gele styles was dead and gone all because young-lings then used to attribute the style to older women, very few young women had the desire to be seen in the gele, in short they would rather show off the latest Ghana weaving hairstyle or the latest weave. Things however changed later and I want to believe that the perseverance of the other young one’s who saw the beauty in the head gear tradition is what has made the gele a desirable piece of accessory today.
While it used to be a struggle and a bit of an embarrassment for a young girl to be seen in the gele, things have taken a different turn and now. These days if you don’t have the gele on as an accessory then your entire outfit just looks bland, our fashion vision and mindset have changed, our perception is different as we embrace who we are as Nigerians and Africans as a whole.
Because of the new found love for the traditional head gear, many creative and artsy people have found that they can bend the fabric into several fascinating shapes. Thus, every now and then there is a new way of tying the gele, asides form new ways to tie the head gear, the decorations on a head gear just keep getting better, etc check out the latest gele pictures form instagram shall we;
