Hey Divas,

Go to a Nigerian wedding on any given weekend , especially Saturdays and you will find family, friends and well wishers of the couple styled with a gele, all in identical fabrics. Family and friends signify their relationship to the celebrant by wearing aso-ebi (which often is accompanied with gele), a Yoruba word that means family cloth. They all buy the same fabric and make an outfit, in the style of their choice. Even men will sometimes make a cap with the gele fabric.

The Gele is a wonderful way of connecting with culture and history and the Nigerian gele has been one that stayed in the limelight for a long time which might be due to the fact that Nigerians can’t do without parties every weekend or because they are fashionable people who know how to dress well.

For Nigerians, dressing for a special occasion always starts from the top down; in fact, learning how to tie a traditional gele, is something of an essential art form; that Nigerian love of fashion has fueled a booming business as makeup artists daily come with new and creative gele styles and makeup to match. It is a conspicuous presence at major events; it’s ultimately the crowning glory of a Nigerian woman’s traditional dress which is why today we have got this gele and makeup collection for you….
