Welcome to Woman Crush Wednesday, a weekly feature where we raise our glasses to all the fabulous females who are out there conquering life’s taboos and stereotypes, and who are just generally making the world a better place to live day by day.
In honor of Women Crush Wednesdays (#WCW) we’d like to duff our hats for Winnie Harlow. This 23-year-old Canadian, whose real name is Chantelle Brown-Young and has a rare condition, Vitiligo, that causes white patches to form on the skin. Being bullied in her younger years based on her appearance which is totally gorgeous, inspired her to speak publicly about her condition in a YouTube video.
Her YouTube video titled Vitiligo, released in July 2011, showcased her true beauty, as she talked about what living with Vitiligo is like. Ever since then, she has continued to speak openly and proudly about her skin condition and encouraging those living with it, not to allow Vitiligo define who they are. The result was so stunning that her page was discovered to take part in America’s Next Top Model 2014.
Winnie Harlow has since been featured in Diesel’s new Spring/Summer 2015 campaign, featured many campaigns, and modelled during New York Fashion week. She’s definitely winning at life right now, and we think you should always celebrate what makes you different, so we’re so totally glad she didn’t let the bullies get her down, and is taking the fashion world by storm.
Winnie is as inspirational as she is beautiful. She overcame horrendous bullying by believing in herself and her ability to challenge the status quo. We love that there is someone out there showing every girl who has ever felt insecure about her appearance to never believe that she isn’t attractive. As long as you are bold, brave and hard-working, the world is your oyster, and there is beauty in everyone.
If you have got an amazing style game and you want to showcase it to the world. Send us an email at [email protected] Who knows? We might just feature you!
