One interesting thing about Yam Bolognese is that it is a Nigerian recipe. It is a nice meal, most importantly, it is one that can be prepared within 30 minutes. It is a meal that gives a break from the everyday meal (rice) and even at that, it is a different way to prepare yam other than the popular yam and egg or yam and sauce.

The Yam Bolognese is easy to prepare and its ingredients are readily available. To prepare Yam Bolognese you will need:

To make Bolognese Sauce

  • 3 cups minced meat
  • ½ teaspoon each (Ground – Ginger , garlic and pepper)
  • Salt – to taste
  • 1 seasoning cube
  • 2 sprigs Green onions – chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tablespoons flour
  • tomatoes- chopped
To make Pan Fried Yam
  • ½ medium yam tuber – peeled, cubed and wash
  • Salt – to taste
  • 3 Tablespoons coconut or vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp. ground pepper
  • 1 small onion – thinly sliced
  • 1 seasoning cube
  1. Place washed yam in a pot, add water and set on medium-high heat, cover and allow it to boil for 15-18 minutes or until it is tender enough. Drain and set aside to cool slightly;yam
  2. While yam is boiling. Place another pot on high heat; add in minced meat, spices, salt, maggi and chopped onion. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes or until meat is browned and cooked. Add in 1 cup of water and flour. stir to mix. Remove from heat and Set aside;bog1
  3. Add salt, pepper and the seasoning cube to the cooked yam;
  4. Add oil to a skillet and heat until hot. Add yam and allow the yam to fry lightly till it turns brown underneath. Flip yam over to the other side , fry as well till it turns brown on other side for 2-3 minutes. Add in onions and Stir-fry gently for another 2-3 minutes;
  5. Add sauce into cooked yam. Cover and simmer for 5 more minutes. Serve and enjoy.
