Nigerian music industry continues to stand and move forward, with some of the biggest records on earth. This industry has achieved a lot, taking Nigerian music beyond everyone’s imagination. Well, lots of events or big moments occurred in this industry this year.
Here are the five biggest moments of Nigerian music in 2017;
1. Wizkid vs Davido beef:
There was an interesting beef between Wizkid and Davido. The arch-rivals sit at the throne of African music, and continue to be at each other’s throats in a bid to dominate. This year, the battle hasn’t been subtle. It has been direct, unforgiving and contagious. Wizkid and David have created such a division online that one has to either identify with one camp or the other to run commentary on a topic. However this beef seems to have been squashed at the recent Wizkid concert where Davido performed along side Wizkid.

2. Phyno vs Pia Mia:
Well, never forget when Nigerians truly believed that Pia Mia, a US singer signed to Interscope, grabbing a Phyno album and stealing a record that wasn’t even going to be a single. Who could have seen that coming? Although the full gist was a lot more technical than we believed but hey, it still made waves.

3. Yemi Alade Sells Out Le Trianon In Paris:
The Effyzzie Music singer sold-out the iconic Le Trianon, Paris, days before the concert, which held on March 7, 2017. Armed with her Ova Sabi band and dancers, she delivered an electrifying 90 minutes set; performing songs from her arsenal of hits.
4. Psquare breakup:
We keep getting stories of a Psquare fight. The Okoye brothers who have made magic together in the past, have been at loggerheads for almost the last half-decade. This year, they finally broke up the group and moved their separate ways. It was the first time they had carried out their threats to split the group up, and it feels surreal that it has happened.
5. One Africa Music Fest London:
The One Africa Music Fest in London was rolled into the UK at the SSE Arena, Wembley, on June 13, 2017. The show was promoted and announced to start off at 7pm, and on the event venue website everything was set.
Planned and executed by entertainment mogul Paul Okoye and his firm, Upfront and Personal Global Management Consultants, the event travels through different cities of the world, celebrating African music stars with live performances from the best of the continent.
