The cold season is the rainy season and it starts now, the months of June and July always see a height in the rain pours compared to other months, therefore you have to be ready because you might just catch a common cold. The common cold is a virus or a lot of viruses and like many viruses there is no vaccine that can be created like they did for the flu. When you catch a cold the viruses attaches itself to the mucous membrane of the throat and the nose, this means it hijacks this areas causing them to produce more viruses so when your body resist, you begin to cough and sneeze.

With all the whizzing, coughing and sneezing you would eventually have to create your own remedy and here are some home remedies for cold you can try;

1. Hot Water Bottle

When you have phlegm and chest congestion using a hot water bottle is what you need. This might be old school but it works well because the heat from the water bottle gently softens up your muscle inadvertently softens the phlegm allow it to come up. You can rub a little of the salve to create effectiveness.


2. Hot Ginger Tea

This is on of the best tea’s to sip when you have cold, I should know this because its my number 1 go-to remedy. The aroma and spice has enough kick to loosen the built up phlegm and the extra fluid helps your body to fight and the steam helps to loosen congestion. You could wither buy already made ginger tea or try this recipe


What You need

  • 6-8 tablespoon of freshly grounded ginger root.
  • A squirt of lemon juice
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • A little bit of  honey
  • 4 cups of freshly boiled water
  • A glass jar

What to do

Pour the freshly grated/ground ginger and cinnamon into a jar (the one’s with tight covers). Bring the 4 cups of water to a boil and pour it into the jar containing the ginger mix. Cover tightly and allow to rest for 30-40 minutes. Uncover afterwards and re-heat serve in a cup and you can add the lemon juice and honey.

3. Make pepper soup

This recipe is great for cold because the heat from the soup and the smell of hot pepper releases enough materials to make the phlegm loosen up and to release chest congestion. Click here to see the fish pepper soup recipe.
